Chandrapur: MLA Kishor Jorgewar Revives 200 Free Electricity Units Promise Ahead of 2024 Elections
Chandrapur, Oct. 7, 2024 – The issue of providing 200 units of free electricity in Chandrapur has resurfaced ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections. Independent MLA Kishor Jorgewar, who first raised this issue in the 2019 elections, won by a large margin then. He is once again pushing the promise and using it to attack his political opponents.
Jorgewar contested and won the 2019 elections in Chandrapur on the promise of 200 units of free electricity for the district. His efforts to fulfill the promise involved organizing several movements to pressurize the state government. After serving five years, during which he aligned with both the Maha Vikas Aghadi and Mahayuti alliances, the issue is now being brought up by his rivals as a point of criticism.
In a recent press briefing, Jorgewar defended his actions, stating that the proposal for free electricity was feasible, but it faced opposition from certain ministers within the government, indirectly pointing to Sudhir Mungantiwar. Jorgewar claimed that these ministers blocked the plan, fearing that the credit for the popular move would solely go to him. Despite agreeing to provide 100 units for free, the plan for 200 units was shelved. Jorgewar expressed disappointment, stating that none of the local representatives supported him on this issue.
