Clash Erupts in Buldhana Over Unauthorised Statue Installations

Buldhana, Maharashtra – Tensions flared in Khamgaon, Buldhana, as two groups clashed over the installation of statues of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar without proper permissions. The dispute escalated into stone-pelting and violence, prompting police intervention to restore order in the area.

The incident occurred during a village meeting (gram sabha) where heated arguments broke out between the two groups. The situation quickly turned violent, with both sides hurling stones at each other. Police officials rushed to the scene and are currently working to defuse the tension and prevent further escalation.

The conflict stems from the recent installation of statues in Vajar village, located in the Khamgaon taluka. A statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was installed a few days ago, followed by the installation of a statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar just two days ago. The unauthorised installations sparked a heated debate during the village meeting, leading to the violent clash.

One group has accused the other of installing the statues without obtaining the necessary permissions, which they claim has violated local norms and regulations. The dispute highlights the deep-seated sensitivities surrounding the installation of statues of revered historical figures in the region.

Police officials are currently stationed at the site, attempting to mediate between the two groups and bring the situation under control. “We are working to calm both sides and ensure peace in the area. The situation is tense, but we are hopeful of resolving the matter soon,” said a police officer at the scene.

Local residents have expressed concern over the incident, urging authorities to address the issue promptly. “This is not just about statues; it’s about respect and harmony in our community. We hope the police and administration will take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future,” said a villager.

The clash has drawn attention to the need for proper protocols and permissions when installing statues or other public monuments, especially those of significant historical and cultural importance. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further and take appropriate action against those responsible for the violence.

As the situation remains tense, the police continue to monitor the area closely, ensuring that peace is maintained. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue and adherence to legal procedures in resolving community disputes.
