Chaos at Savitribai Phule School as SSC Students Face Last-Minute Exam Centre Change
Amravati, Maharashtra: Confusion and frustration gripped students and parents today as a last-minute change in the examination centre for the Class 10 English paper led to chaos at Savitribai Phule School in Amravati. The sudden shift of the exam centre for students from Room No. 6 to Jubilee English School left parents and students scrambling, with many accusing the education department of negligence and poor planning.
The incident occurred on the day of the crucial English paper for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams. Parents had dropped off their children at Savitribai Phule School, only to discover later that the exam centre for students assigned to Room No. 6 had been changed to Jubilee English School. With no prior notice or communication from the education department, the abrupt change caused significant distress among students and parents.
Students and Parents Left in the Lurch
Many students, already anxious about their English exam, were left bewildered when they were informed about the centre change after reaching Savitribai Phule School. Parents, who had left for work after dropping off their children, had to rush back to accompany their wards to the new centre.
Asif Ahmed Khan, a teacher and parent of a Class 10 student, expressed his frustration: “I dropped my son at Savitribai Phule School for his English exam, only to find out later that his centre had been shifted to Jubilee English School. Many parents didn’t even know where Jubilee English School was located. There was no one to guide us, and children were seen running to the new centre on foot.”
Allegations of Negligence Against Education Department
Parents have accused the education department of gross negligence, claiming that the last-minute change caused unnecessary stress for students and disrupted their exam preparation. They demanded immediate action against the officials responsible for the oversight.
“The education department should have informed us in advance about the centre change. We could have planned accordingly. Instead, they created chaos on the day of the exam, adding to the students’ anxiety,” said a visibly upset parent.
Another parent highlighted the lack of coordination: “There was no proper arrangement to inform the students about the centre change. Many only realised it after entering their assigned rooms. This is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the education department.”
Calls for Accountability
The incident has sparked outrage among parents, who are demanding accountability from the education department. Many have called for the suspension of the officials responsible for the oversight, citing the need for better planning and communication in the future.
“This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. The education department must take responsibility and ensure that such lapses do not happen again. Students’ futures are at stake, and they cannot afford such disruptions,” said a local education activist.
Education Department Yet to Respond
As of now, the education department has not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Parents and students are hoping for swift action to address the issue and prevent similar occurrences in the remaining exams.
The chaos at Savitribai Phule School has once again highlighted the need for better coordination and communication in the education system. With the SSC exams being a critical milestone for students, such disruptions can have a lasting impact on their performance and mental well-being.
