Akola Agricultural Market Committee Shuts Down in Protest Against Minister Abdul Sattar’s Behavior

AKOLA, Maharashtra, Oct. 7, 2024

The Akola Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) was shut down Monday as part of a statewide strike in protest against the alleged stubborn behavior of Maharashtra Minister Abdul Sattar. Farmers and traders in the district supported the call for the strike, halting all market activities, especially at a crucial time during the soybean harvest season.

The Maharashtra State Market Committee Cooperative Union organized the protest, which saw significant participation across most market committees in the state. The strike has disrupted the soybean trade, leaving farmers unable to sell their produce and stalling the week’s transactions.

The union, expressing frustration over Minister Sattar’s reluctance to address the concerns of farmers and businesses, hopes the protest will compel the government to take their grievances seriously. The shutdown is an effort to voice their demand for more proactive measures from the state government in resolving ongoing issues affecting agricultural markets.
